NkhataBay child vendors released

Police in the lakeshore district of NkhataBay have released thirteen children after briefly detaining them for night street vending.

The children aged between eight and sixteen, were found on Monday selling bananas along the district’s streets at odd hours.

NkhataBay Police Station Public Relations Officer Ignatius Esau told YFM online that they decided to release the children after having a day long discussion with their guardians.

“The detention was done to set a precedent to other children who are fond of selling various merchandise in the streets at night, “he said.

Esau urged parents and guardians to be responsible enough to refrain from such practices as it exposes the children to many risks including defilement.
