APAM welcomes Regional Action Plan on Albinism in Africa

Association of Persons with Albinism (APAM) has expressed optimism with the coming in of Regional Action Plan on Albinism in Africa which among others will address some of the challenges persons with Albinism face.

The Regional Action Plan on Albinism in Africa has set 15 specific and concrete measures centered on four key pillars namely prevention, protection, accountability, equality and non-discrimination among people with Albinism.

Speaking to YFM online, Chairperson for the association Overstone Kondowe said the action plan is a powerful instrument to address challenges persons with albinism continue to face in the country to ensure their enjoyment of human rights.

He said the action plan is a guiding document as the African continent did not have an instrument for addressing the challenges.

“The challenges facing persons with albinism are of regional basis which means they may require regional strategies to address these issues,” Kondowe said.

The Regional Action Plan on Albinism in Africa will run for four years from 2018 to 2021.
