Water board employee battling for life after attack by customer

A Southern Region Water Board (SRWB) employee is battling for his life at Zomba Central Hospital after being severely beaten by a customer while disconnecting a meter which had an outstanding bill.

The board’s Public Relations Officer, Rita Makangwala identified the victim as Andrew Selemani who met his fate at Eagles Car Hire offices in Zomba.

Makwangwala however urged the general public to desist from abusing water board staff saying they are only doing their work.

She also urged the board’s customers to report issues concerning them to the relevant officers than venting their anger on innocent people.

“If we disconnect water from either your office or home, it’s not a punishment, we only take what is ours… people have consumed our water and later fail to settle their bills, what else do you expect from us?” Makwangwala said.

Zomba Police Officer-In-Charge, Benson Tawakali, confirmed the arrest of one person in connection to the assault but refused to disclose the identity of the suspect.

However, YFM online, can reveal that the suspect, is Intius Abu Musa who is a Manager at Eagles Car Hire.
