Flames off to Botswana with 6 professionals

All the six foreign based players for the Malawi national soccer team have now joined the squad which   left the country on Wednesday morning enroute to Botswana ahead of Saturday’s 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifier Preliminary Round first leg against the Zebras.

The Flames, which left through Kamuzu International Airport with a squad of 19 players, including five foreign based professionals, has now been joined by Orlando Pirates forward, Gabadinho Mhango, at OR Tambo International Airport in South Africa.

The foreign based players who joined the team here at home include Yamikani Chester-North Carolina FC (USA), John Banda-Ferraviaro de Nampula (Mozambique), Robin Ngalande-Zira FK (Azerbaijan).Gerard Phiri and Richard Mbulu both from Baroka FC (South Africa).

Yamikani Chester joined the team in Lilongwe while the rest of the professionals joined the squad in Blantyre.

In the squad of local players, head coach Meke Mwase has included 8 players from Nyasa Big Bullets, 3 from Mighty Be Forward Wanderers while Silver Strikers and Blue Eagles have contributed 1 player each.

The return match is scheduled for Tuesday, September 10 at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.

Meanwhile Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has pegged Tuesday’s return match at K1, 000 and K2, 000 at open and MBC stands respectively while covered and VIP stands will attract a fee of K3, 000 and K5, 000 respectively.

The tickets will be sold in advance in different filling stations, Kamuzu stadium, FDH branch in Limbe and Shop-rite stores.
