DPP supporters clash with HRDC protesters

Suspected ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) supporters on Wednesday brutally hacked Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) member Billy Mayaya during anti-Jane Ansah demonstrations.

The incident happened as anti-Jane Ansah protesters were parading from Kamuzu Upper Stadium in Blantyre to present a petition to 21st Annual General Conference of the Electoral Commissions forum for SADC countries.

Mayaya who was left deep wounds, was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre for treatment.
He later posted on his Facebook account claiming that he was attacked by stones and an iron bar.

DPP supporters and HRDC demonstrators were seen pelting stones at each other at Chichiri Trade Fair Grounds as minister of Agriculture Kondwani Nakhumwa was opening the National Agriculture Fair.

Police fired teargas to disperse DPP supporters and anti-Jane Ansah protesters during the fracas.

DPP supporters were later seen marching towards Blantyre CBD in the afternoon after police dispersed anti-Jane Ansah demonstrators.
