MCP exposes alleged vote rigging scheme

Opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has exposed an alleged vote rigging scheme by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) and National Registration Bureau (NRB) as the country prepares for fresh presidential election.

MCP president Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has this morning told the media in Lilongwe that MEC has ghost voters and names of minors in its data base.

Dr. Chakwera cited a case in Chikwawa where a minor was registered in the voters roll.

The MCP leader has further claimed that his team of information and communication technology (ICT) specialists has identified 7000 names of minors and ghost voters in the voters roll.

During the briefing, MCP’s Head of ICT, Daud Suleiman demonstrated how the voter’s roll and the NRB data base were altered.

Meanwhile, Dr. Chakwera says he has instructed his lawyers to commence a legal pursuit in order to demand an audit of MEC and National Registration Bureau’s data base.
