Pregnant girls barred from classes in Ntcheu

Standard eight young girls who have been impregnated during closure of schools due to Covid-19 pandemic in Ntcheu district are at a high risk of performing poorly in Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PLSCE) examinations despite government’s directive to allow such girls to attend classes.
YFM has established that young pregnant learners at Senzani Primary School were barred from attending classes by the Primary Education Advisor (PEA) and were instead told to collect notes to read while at home.
This is despite a directive by the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Education Chikondano Mussa that such young girls should be allowed to return to school to sit for PLSCE and Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations.
Director of Education in the district Lucia Namalengwa expressed ignorance on the matter but vowed to look into it.
