Malawi has regressed in safeguarding vulnerable groups

The Center for Human Rights Education Advice and Assistance (CHREAA) says Malawi has regressed in safeguarding human rights of marginalised groups in 2020.

CHREAA’s executive director Victor Mhango told YFM in an interview that the country has not done well in protection of human rights of prisoners, women’s and children’s rights.

Mhango rape and defilement cases have risen at an alarming rate in 2020.

“Some months ago we had a number of rape cases and defilement cases a development which is strange to Malawian society.

“We are supposed to protect the lives of the vulnerable our mothers, our girls and our children so we have not done well on that,” he said.

Mhango however applauded Malawians for recognizing when their rights have been violated and seeking legal aid using right channels.
