Nankhumwa calls for Covid-19 stimulus package

Leader of Opposition in Parliament Kondwani Nankhumwa has asked the Tonse Alliance government to provide stimulus package to the less privileged to cushion them against the extreme economic impact of Covid-19.

In his response to the new measures announced by President Lazarus Chakwera, Nankhumwa has asked government to channel some resources from the allocated K17.5 billion towards social cash transfers for the ultra-poor.

Nankhumwa has also called for provision of soft loans to more people through the Malawi Enterprise Development Fund (NEEF) and reduction in water tariffs for three months to enhance hygiene.

He has also raised the need for government to reduce prices of fuel whose hike few months ago resulted in the increase in cost of living.
