Police assures Balaka communities of fair trial on drug theft case

Police in Balaka have assured communities in the district that there will be a fair trial into the drug theft case involving, Balaka District Hospital pharmacist Ignacio Chisaka.

This follows allegations by Human Rights Defenders Coalition-Eastern Region that police are ‘playing delaying tactics to take the matter to court.

Balaka Police Public Relations Officer Felix Misomali, told YFM that Chisaka aged 41, is currently on bail and is still appearing before court on theft of medicines or allied substance on which he was granted court bail.

Meanwhile Misomali said investigations are at an advanced stage on the second count of theft by public servant contrary to Section 283 of the Penal code.

Chisaka is alleged to have been found in possession of assorted medical drugs without authorized documents as he was exiting the main gate at Balaka District Hospital on March 20, 2021.

Police have appealed to Balaka communities to continue exercising patience as they are working tirelessly to ensure fair trial on the two counts.

Chisaka comes from Julius Village, Traditional Authority Katunga in Chikwawa.
