Chakwera promises to construct Chihana mausoleum

President Lazarus Chakwera says his administration will construct a mausoleum for Thom Chakufwa Chihana.
Chakwera disclosed this in Mzuzu on Monday after laying a wreath at Chihana’s grave.
Chihana was Alliance for Democratic (Aford) founder and one of the pioneer of Malawi’s multiparty democracy.

Chakwera said his administration will construct a mausoleum for all the heroes that fought for the democracy that the country now enjoy which include Orton Chirwa.

He also emphasised on the need for political parties to come together and unite so that the country continue to enjoy the democracy that the heroes fought for and for the development of the country.

According to Enock Chihana son to the late Chakufwa, this is the first time a president has visited the grave to lay a wreath since the demise of the late heroe saying the grave has been used for campaign to get votes and later nothing is done.

He therefore thanked the president for showing a good example and for following the right protocols to visit the grave.

Thom chakufwa chihana died on 12 June in 2006 and was laid to rest on 17 June in Mzuzu.
