Blantyre rolls Covid-19 second dose Monday

Blantyre District Health Office (DHO) has announced that it will start administering Covid-19 second dose vaccine from Monday June 7.

According to a statement signed by the Director of Health and Social Services, in the district, Dr. Gift Kawalazira, the vaccine will be given in phases based on a period of 12 weeks from the first dose.

Reads part of the statement: “The DHO is advising all those coming for the second dose to present themselves after 12 weeks from the date of the first vaccine dose.”

According to the arranged phases, frontline health workers, men in uniform like the MDF, Police, Immigration and Prison Officers will be among those who will be the first to receive the jab.

The second phase will target social workers, the elderly and those with underlying health conditions.

The rest of people who are aged 18 years and above will receive their jab in the third phase.

The sights designated to be administering the vaccine are all government and CHAM healthy facilities.

People who were not vaccinated during the first phase have been urged to receive the vaccine.

The vaccination exercise has already been rolled out in the country on Thursday.
