Blantyre runs out of Covid-19 vaccine

Most of the facilities where Covid-19 vaccine was being administered in Blantyre, have run out of the dose, including hot spots such as Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital, Gateway and Limbe clinics.

According to Blantyre District Health Office, 22 out of 34 facilities that were instituted had run out of the dose as of the end of Wednesday, July 28.

Meanwhile Blantyre District Health Office spokesperson, Chrissy Banda, says they have already requested the Ministry of Healthy to supply the district with more vaccine.

Banda said: “We have informed the Ministry of Health and requested for more vaccines if they have some in their stock and also we will be on the lookout for the districts where the uptake is low so that we can get more from there.”

Blantyre district which has a population of about 1.4 million people, received 28, 400 doses and the vaccination exercise started on Monday, July 26.

Zingwangwa vaccination centre had a highest vaccination balance in the district as of Thursday, July 29 with 1, 030 doses.
