Malawians urged to write Wills

Government has called upon Malawians to develop a culture of writing Wills for the benefit of their dependants.

According to the Minister of Lands, Sam Kawale, the Deceased Estates (Wills, Inheritance and Protection Act) is very clear on how wealth should be distributed when either a husband or wife has died.

Kawale said the continued reported cases of property grabbing can only be dealt with in presence of a will.

“It’s a very huge challenge that most Malawians don’t write Wills but writing a Will is an expression of love to our loved ones,” said Kawale.

He added that writing a will is not only meant for the rich people saying everyone can write it as long as they have property.

He said: “I think as a ministry we should incorporate the importance of writing a Will when we will be sensitising the masses about land management committees because this will bring in a better understanding on the importance of a Will.”
