The Lilongwe Principal Resident Magistrate Court has dismissed an application filed by Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for the Central Region, Alfred Gangata, seeking to have charges against him dropped.
The defence filed the application on April 9, 2025, arguing that the charges against Gangata contained legal irregularities and should therefore be discharged.
However, Magistrate Benjamin Chulu sided with the state, stating that the charges were legally valid and brought before the court within the appropriate timeframe, contrary to the defence’s claims.
Speaking after the ruling, Gangata’s lawyer, Zwelithini Chipembere, said they would closely review the judgment before deciding on their next course of action.
