Agricultural experts have urged farmers to adopt climate-resilient and disease-free banana suckers to help revive the country’s banana industry.
Francis Mabedi, Makoka Research Station-based agriculture research officer, told YFM in an interview that using varieties resistant to the Banana Bunchy Top Virus is key to restoring plantations that were previously wiped out in several districts.
Mabedi emphasized that boosting local banana production will not only reduce the country’s dependence on imports but also create opportunities for exports.
