The National Advocacy Platform (NAP) and the Civil Society Elections Integrity Forum (CSEIF) have called on the government to explain the circumstances that led to the cancellation of the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Chairperson of both organizations, Benedicto Kondowe, emphasized that the government has both a legal and moral obligation to be transparent and accountable to the Malawian people regarding the matter.
Kondowe further pointed out that findings from the 2024 study conducted by the Economics Association of Malawi (ECAMA) revealed persistent challenges in the implementation of the ECF.
He stressed the need for Malawi to explore alternative sources of revenue generation in light of these issues.
