Minister of Local Government Richard Chimwendo Banda has called on traditional leaders to prioritize the welfare of the underprivileged.
Speaking in Zomba during the elevation ceremony of Senior Chief Mwambo and Traditional Authority Idana, Chimwendo Banda said chiefs have a critical role in promoting a just society.
He stressed that traditional leaders must ensure the ultra-poor, orphans, and widows benefit directly from social protection programmes and relief efforts.
The minister also called on chiefs to foster unity and make sure that the voiceless in their communities have equal access to justice.
In his remarks, Senior Chief Mwambo pledged to uphold the rights and well-being of his subjects.
