Chakwera launches MCP campaign in Southern Region

President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera officially launched the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) campaign in the Southern Region on Friday, urging peaceful political engagement and reaffirming his administration’s commitment to inclusive national development.

Speaking at Ngabu Sports Club in Chikwawa, President Chakwera dismissed claims that his government has sidelined the region, highlighting developmental initiatives such as the construction of health posts, infrastructure upgrades in higher education institutions, and the distribution of National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) loans to farmers and entrepreneurs.

“In 2020, I received over 280,000 votes from this region despite doubts about regional bias. I am confident that I still have your support,” Chakwera told the crowd.

He also shared highlights from the MCP’s 2025 manifesto, which include plans to establish fertilizer manufacturing plants to boost food security and to create 750,000 jobs annually — aiming for three million jobs by 2030.

MCP’s second Vice President and Minister of Water and Sanitation, Abida Mia, praised President Chakwera’s leadership and urged voters to support him in the upcoming general elections slated for 16 September.

“Vote for Chakwera to ensure continued development across the nation,” Mia said.
