In a surprising political development, Timothy Mtambo, Vice President of the Alliance for Democracy (AFORD), has publicly opposed the newly announced alliance between AFORD and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
Speaking at a press conference in Lilongwe, Mtambo criticized the alliance, citing fundamental ideological differences between the two parties.
He also voiced strong disapproval of the appointment of Jane Ansah as running mate to former President Peter Mutharika, a decision he says further undermines the alliance’s credibility.
Mtambo referenced the DPP’s track record, which he believes contributed to its defeat in the 2020 elections, and stated that it would be hypocritical for him to support or campaign for the DPP.
He also disclosed that he will not participate in campaigning for the DPP-AFORD alliance.
