Govt to relocate refugees to Dzaleka Camp

Government through the Ministry of Homeland Security says it will collaborate with key stakeholders especially traditional leaders to identify asylum seekers and refugees that are operating businesses outside Dzaleka Camp.

This comes after the ministry directed the group to return to the camp within 14 days effective April 1 this year.

Spokesperson of the ministry Andrew Nyondo said contrary to what encampment policy stipulates, many refugees and asylum seekers are doing businesses outside Dzaleka camp premises.

“Following observation and complaints from the citizens, we discovered that many asylum seekers and refugees are doing business outside the camp.”

“But the encampment policy demands these people to be in their designated camps and that those plying for business should do so whilst in camp,” Nyondo said.

He has since said that government will take necessary action to those that will fail to comply with the directive.

He also said that sensitizations campaigns are underway of which it is involving officials from Police, Immigration and Refugees departments.

Meanwhile, the ministry has appealed to the citizenry to exercise patience as refugees and asylum seekers will be returning to the camp.
