Habitual criminal arrested in Blantyre after two years on the run

Police in Ndirande, Blantyre have arrested a notorious criminal Paul Patula, 20, and managed to recover various items.

Paul has been on police wanted list since 2020 after absconding bail.

Despite being on bail, he continued causing havoc with series of robberies and breaking offences in Ndirande and surrounding townships with his accomplices who are still at large.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers, working on Intelligence driven collection, got a tip-off that the suspect was hiding at Gamulani location within the township.

Following the information, on November 15, 2022, police officers raided Paul’s hiding place and he was arrested.

After interrogations, Paul, confessed to a number of robberies and breakings. He led the detectives to Chirimba, Mbayani and Machinjiri Townships where some of the items worth K600, 000 were recovered.

The recovered items include plasma televisions, decoders, home theatres, laptop and wall clocks.

The officers are still on their ground to affect more arrests and recoveries. Therefore, the police are appealing to community members to give tip-offs on suspected criminals hiding in their residential areas.

The suspect, who comes from Tambala village in Traditional Authority Juma in Mulanje District, will appear in court soon to answer charges of robbery, theft and burglary charges.
