A one-year-old boy died Wednesday after the passenger boat they were in capsized in Shire River in Nsanje district.

Six others are missing after the incident, said Nsanje police station public relations officer Inspector Agnes Zalakoma.

Zalakoma said 15 people boarded the boat to cross to other side of the river.

“The boat suddenly hit a tree trunk and ended up capsizing,” Zalakoma said.

A search and rescue operation is continuing for six people still missing.
