ACB to appeal against Viola’s suspended sentence

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) will appeal the suspended sentence melted to former National Food Reserve Agency (NFRA) deputy chief executive officer Gerald Viola and businessperson Chrispin Chingola, ACB spokesperson Egrita Ndala said Tuesday.

Principal Resident Magistrate Viva Nyimba on Monday sentenced Viola and Chingola a three-year imprisonment sentence which he suspended for two years.

They were convicted last week on misuse of office and influencing a public officer to misuse his office respectively.

Viola and Chingola were arrested by the ACB in October 2020 for their role in the supply 10,000 metric tonnes of maize to NFRA worth K3.3 billion.
