Freddy survivors cling to school classrooms

About 50 Cyclone Freddy displaced families who are living at Mbayani primary school camp in Blantyre have vowed not to leave the camp unless authorities provide them with places to stay.

A visit by YFM at the site, established that although learners have returned to the school, the premise is still keeping some affected families while others have left.

The camp’s chairperson and other survivors who spoke to YFM have expressed concern that life has become harder as they have been allocated two classes only whereby one class is accommodating both men and women due to congestion.

Mbayani Chemusa Ward councillor Edwin Chinthuli, who has confirmed that he held talks with the affected families, said together with his committee they are mobilizing money to give the people as transport so that they can go to their respective villages to ensure that lessons at the school should not be disturbed.
