The Ministry of Health has reported a significant increase in malaria cases and deaths in 2024, with 2,252 people succumbing to the disease and 9.4 million cases recorded nationwide.
This marks a rise from 1,670 deaths and 6.5 million cases in 2023.
The figures were released in a statement signed by Secretary for Health, Samson Mndolo, as the country joins the global community in commemorating World Malaria Day, observed annually on April 25.
Mndolo noted that the surge in malaria cases is placing additional pressure on the already strained healthcare system.
