Chakwera accuses businesses of greed over price hikes

President Lazarus Chakwera has accused some manufacturers, traders, and suppliers of goods and services of greed, blaming them for excessive and unjustified price hikes on products.

Speaking at Balaka Stadium on Thursday during the 2025 Labour Day commemoration, Chakwera expressed concern that uninformed pricing is eroding the purchasing power of salaried workers, effectively shrinking their incomes.

He said the government is taking steps to address the issue by engaging manufacturers and traders to protect consumers from exploitation.

Chakwera noted, however, that some manufacturers and traders have already heeded the government’s call by reducing prices of their products.
