Analyst weighs in on DPP’s stance against independent candidacy

By Temwa Tembo

Renowned political analyst Wonderful Mkhutche has described the Democratic Progressive Party’s (DPP) recent position on independent candidacy as a reasonable measure aimed at preserving party discipline.

The DPP recently issued a press statement warning that any member who decides to run as an independent candidate in any election will automatically forfeit their party membership.

Commenting on the development, Mkhutche said the move is necessary to uphold party unity and integrity.

However, one of the affected individuals, Evarton Maele, who initially planned to contest under the DPP banner but has since opted to run as an independent, has dismissed the warning, saying he is not intimidated by the party’s statement.

Maele said he will proceed with his candidacy as planned.
