The National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) aimed at empowering young people through digital innovation.
The agreement, signed during a ceremony held in Lilongwe, outlines a collaborative effort to enhance digital literacy, expand access to technology, and foster innovation among Malawi’s youth.
Speaking at the event, NYCOM Executive Director Rex Chapota said the partnership is designed to unlock the potential of young people in driving innovation, generating employment, and contributing to the development of a knowledge-based economy.
“This collaboration will focus on equipping youth across all districts with essential digital skills and access to technology,” Chapota said.
“It will also strengthen the innovation ecosystem through joint programs that promote entrepreneurship and creativity among young people.”
Chapota emphasized that the initiative aligns with the Malawi 2063 development blueprint and the United Nations Global Pact for the Future, both of which highlight the critical role of digital transformation in achieving sustainable development goals.
MACRA’s Muuni Fund Team Leader, Wezzie Salima, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the need to bridge the digital divide.
“The partnership aims to address the lack of access to digital opportunities faced by many Malawian youths,” she said.
“Through this collaboration, more young people are expected to benefit from the digital economy and gain access to transformative opportunities.”
