PAC warns political parties against violence ahead of polls

The Public Affairs Committee (PAC) has issued a strong warning to major political parties in Malawi against orchestrating political violence as the country prepares for the upcoming general elections.

PAC Chairperson, Monsignor Dr. Patrick Thawale, made the remarks on Tuesday in Blantyre during the opening of the 6th All-Inclusive Stakeholders Conference.

The conference has brought together a wide range of stakeholders including representatives from religious institutions, political parties, civil society organizations, the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), the Reserve Bank of Malawi, the police, and traditional leaders.

Monsignor Thawale emphasized the need for political leaders to promote peace and tolerance, especially as tensions often rise during the electoral period.

He also noted that, beyond political issues, the conference will address critical national matters such as the state of the country’s economy, with the aim of fostering dialogue and generating solutions that benefit all Malawians.
