The Executive Director of the National Youth Council of Malawi (NYCOM), Rex Chapota, has expressed confidence that Malawian youth have the potential to significantly contribute to national development if given the opportunity and platform to lead.

Chapota shared his sentiments after visiting projects being implemented by Chikonde Youth Organization in Zomba, with support from Corps Africa.

“These youth have shown us that all they lack is capital to maximize their potential. This is a remote area, yet look at how well they’ve managed to organize themselves, even constructing a large labour ward at the local health center,” he said.

Corps Africa Country Director, Wongani Mgawa, echoed Chapota’s sentiments, saying the organization is impressed with the commitment and responsiveness of the youth they are supporting.

“We have deployed volunteers in every community to assist them, and we’re pleased that the results meet our expectations,” he said.

Chikonde Youth Organization Executive Director, John Kukada, said the group plans to venture into entrepreneurship to empower its members.
