The NGO Gender Coordination Network (NGO-GCN) has urged key stakeholders to collaborate in addressing persistent challenges faced by women aspiring for political office.
Olive Mpina, Programs Officer at NGO-GCN, made the call on Monday in Mangochi during a training session for 30 aspiring female candidates from the eastern region.
The session is part of the Political Empowerment of Women in Malawi project, supported by UN Women with funding from Sweden and Norway.
Mpina expressed satisfaction with the growing number of women preparing to contest in the 2025 general elections, despite facing obstacles such as financial constraints and limited support from political parties in leadership roles.
She emphasized the need for collective efforts to eliminate these barriers.
One of the participants, Lucy Saini, an aspiring Member of Parliament for Mulunguzi Constituency, praised the initiative, stating that the training has equipped them with practical strategies to enhance their electoral chances.
