The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) is conducting a week-long capacity assessment in Malawi, focusing on Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) to evaluate the country’s efforts in promoting positive health behaviours within communities.
Speaking at a media interface, Dr. Priscilla Madzinga, Continental SBC Coordinator at Africa CDC, highlighted that the initiative aims to identify capacity gaps among frontline health workers and provide support to strengthen competencies in key SBC areas.
She noted that while resources are often available during public health emergencies, they tend to dwindle once the crisis subsides.
Dr. Madzinga commended Malawi’s progress in promoting positive health practices and recognized the country’s active implementation of several SBC initiatives.
In his remarks, Dr. Kondwani Mamba, Deputy Director for Community and Promotive Health Services at the Ministry of Health, described the assessment as a valuable opportunity for Malawi to showcase its strengths and identify areas for improvement.
Dr. Mamba also emphasized the progress made in health promotion despite the country experiencing multiple health emergencies and outbreaks.
