Mixed reactions to Chakwera’s speech

By Prosper Kanyade Balirani

President Lazarus Chakwera’s speech marking the start of the official campaign period has sparked varied reactions from experts.

Political analyst Chimwemwe Tsitsi has praised the President for emphasizing peace, urging political party followers to respect Chakwera’s call for a fair and peaceful campaign leading up to the September 16 general election.

Another analyst, George Chaima, also commended the President’s remarks, describing the speech as powerful and reflective of a leader who cares deeply for the nation.

However, Chaima noted that the message raised questions in light of recent political violence and concerns about the conduct of Chakwera’s administration.

Chaima further acknowledged Chakwera’s consistent stance against political violence, pointing out that the President has never incited unrest—even as some Malawi Congress Party (MCP) members have been linked to provocative actions.
