President of the People’s Transformation Party (PETRA), Kamuzu Chiwambo, has officially announced Chris Bulakwacha as his running mate for the upcoming general election scheduled for 16 September.

Chiwambo made the announcement during the presentation of his nomination papers to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).

He explained that Bulakwacha was unable to attend the event due to a delayed flight from South Africa but was expected to arrive in the country on Monday afternoon.

In response, MEC Chairperson Annabel Mtalimanja noted irregularities in PETRA’s nomination documents, particularly the absence of the running mate’s signature.

She advised the party to review and correct the forms before the submission deadline on 30 July 2025.
