Leader of the Liberation for Economic Freedom (LEF) party, David Mbewe, on Tuesday named Edward Kampanje as his running mate as he prepares to contest in the September 16 presidential election.

Mbewe made the announcement when he officially submitted his nomination papers to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).

Addressing supporters and the media, Mbewe said Malawians often forget the hardships they have endured over the past four years.

He urged citizens to vote wisely and resist being influenced by short-term handouts from politicians, such as party-branded clothing or small cash gifts.

Mbewe, who also serves as a religious leader, emphasized that his political ambitions do not conflict with his spiritual duties.

He assured the public that he understands how to manage both roles responsibly and with integrity.
