Independent contestant Smart Swira on Wednesday submitted his presidential nomination papers for the September 16 elections, with Jonathan Matonga as his running mate.

Speaking to journalists after submitting his presidential nomination papers to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), Swira said he is running with a sense of urgency to rescue the suffering people of Malawi.

According to him, the nation’s salvation has come through him and his deputy, who are committed to fully rebuilding the country.

He has pledged to fight corruption and ensure that public funds are used appropriately and serve their intended purpose.

This is not the first time Swira has expressed interest in the presidency.

He previously showed intent to contest in the 2019 elections but did not make it to the ballot due to various challenges.
