Chairperson of the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), Justice Annabel Mtalimanja, has reaffirmed the Commission’s dedication to ensuring free, fair, inclusive, and credible general elections.
Speaking at the close of the nomination process, she hailed the exercise as successful and orderly, attributing this to the active participation and cooperation of all stakeholders.
Justice Mtalimanja emphasized the importance of responsibility and patriotism from political actors, civil society, the media, and the general public throughout the electoral process.
She reported that 20 out of 22 presidential aspirants successfully submitted their nomination papers on time. Of these, seven are independent candidates, while the remaining are sponsored by registered political parties.
All submissions will now undergo rigorous scrutiny and verification to ensure compliance with electoral laws and procedures—marking the start of the next key phase in the electoral calendar.
