CHREAA rues lack of voter education in prisons

The Centre for Human Rights Education, Advice and Assistance (CHREAA) has expressed concern over the lack of civic and voter education in Malawi’s prisons.

CHREAA Executive Director, Victor Mhango, made the remarks on Friday during a voter sensitization campaign held at Chichiri Prison in Blantyre.

Speaking to YFM, Mhango said the initiative is vital as it aims to raise awareness on voting rights, explore challenges inmates face in exercising this right, and provide a platform for questions and discussions about the electoral process.

Blantyre Prison Officer-in-Charge and Deputy Commissioner of Prisons, Owen Levi, commended CHREAA for the initiative, saying it has significantly improved prisoners’ understanding of electoral processes.
