TC extends 2025 selling season

The Tobacco Commission (TC) has extended the 2025 tobacco selling season to September 12, giving farmers additional time to sell their remaining crop.

Originally, the season was set to close on August 29, 2025.

However, trading at Chinkhoma and Lilongwe markets will now continue until September 5, while Mzuzu Floors will remain open until September 12.

Limbe Floors closed earlier, on August 8.

Speaking to YFM, TC spokesperson Telephorus Chigwenembe said the extension was prompted by higher-than-expected volumes of unsold tobacco.

As of August 21, Malawi had sold 200.5 million kilograms of tobacco, generating over $507.3 million (approximately K888.2 billion) in revenue for farmers.
