Zomba residents at risk of waterborne diseases

By Peter Davieson

Residents of Namalaka in Zomba say they are at risk of contracting waterborne diseases following a sewer burst that has gone unrepaired for over a week.

Speaking to YFM, Magret Sikweya said the issue is not new, but the city council has failed to provide a lasting solution.

“Whenever the sewer bursts in this area, it takes a long time for the council to respond and carry out repairs. This puts our lives in danger, as the sewage water flows even through people’s yards,” Sikweya explained.

She added that they reported the matter to local leaders, urging them to escalate it to the council, but they are still waiting for a response.

Officials from the Zomba City Council were not available for comment on the matter.
