Analyst urges patience on free secondary school promise

By Peter Davieson

Education expert Island Mtambo has appealed to Malawians to remain patient and give the new Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) government time to properly prepare for the implementation of its free secondary school education program.

Mtambo made the remarks in an interview with YFM following reports that some people are reluctant to pay school fees, citing the DPP’s campaign promise of free secondary education.

He warned that if such a policy is introduced without carefully assessing student numbers and the resources required, it could lead to disruptions in the education system and compromise the quality of learning.

During the recent election campaign, the DPP pledged to provide free secondary school education as part of its strategy to expand access to education in the country.
