Social analyst Mavuto Bamusi has described the appointment of 37-year-old Alfred Gangata as a Cabinet Minister as a positive sign that youth participation in high-level political and leadership positions in the country is gaining ground.

According to a statement released by the Office of the President, President Peter Mutharika has appointed a lean Cabinet, which also includes several key senior government officials.

The appointments include Enock Chihana as Second Vice President, George Chaponda as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Joseph Mwanamvekha as Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, and Richard Luhanga as Inspector General of Police.

Bamusi said Gangata’s appointment, considering his relatively young age compared to previous cabinet compositions, demonstrates the government’s growing commitment to giving young people opportunities to participate in national decision-making processes.
