Police in Phalombe District are keeping in custody a 25-year-old man for allegedly attempting to sell his 9-year-old cousin.
Phalombe Police Public Relations Officer, Jimmy Kapanja, confirmed the incident to YFM, saying the suspect was reportedly offering to sell human body parts to a local businessperson, who later alerted the police.
Kapanja explained that, following police guidance, the businessperson arranged with the suspect to bring the child alive to Chiringa Trading Centre, where the transaction was supposed to take place.
Upon the suspect’s arrival at the agreed location, police officers swiftly moved in and arrested him.
Kapanja added that investigations are ongoing, and the suspect will soon appear in court to answer charges related to human trafficking and attempting to sell a person.
