The newly constructed Zomba Stadium is awaiting inspection and certification from the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) before it can begin hosting top-tier league matches.
According to Zomba City Council spokesperson Aubrey Moses, the inspection is a crucial step required before the stadium can be officially cleared for major football competitions.
Moses made the remarks following growing concerns from football fans in Zomba and surrounding areas, who have expressed frustration over the stadium’s delayed use for competitive matches despite its official opening by former President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera on September 11 this year.
Speaking to YFM, Moses explained that for now, only minor local matches are being played at the facility.
He further encouraged all individuals or organizations interested in using the stadium for sporting events to contact the Zomba City Council offices.
