There is hope that people in the country will plant 41 million trees during the national tree-planting season, which will run into next year.
The Secretary for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Mining, Richard Perekamoyo, has said this year’s season will begin on 15 December 2025 and end on 15 April 2026.
In a similar season for 2024–2025, the government had projected that people would plant 40 million trees.
Meanwhile, environmental advocate, Mathews Malata, has said that during this season it is important to ensure that the seedlings being planted are strong enough.
He added that apart from planting the trees, it is also important to promote the care of the young plants so they can grow well.
