Expert cautions police against parading suspects

By Brenda Mphalumo

A security expert, Sherrif Kaisi, has cautioned the police against parading suspects before the public while explaining how alleged crimes were committed.

Kaisi said displaying suspects on video and on social media platforms in the course of reconstructing crimes may compromise investigations, as it can allow other suspects to learn in advance the answers to certain questions already posed to their accomplices.

“For this reason, questioning of suspects should be conducted discreetly, without publicly exposing how the crime was carried out,” Kaisi said.

On Wednesday, police, together with six suspects believed to have taken part in the killing of Dr Victoria Bobe, visited the deceased’s home in Chigumula Township in Blantyre to reconstruct how the suspects allegedly accessed the premises.

Dr Bobe, who was a lecturer at the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS), was shot dead at her home on 7 November this year.
