Ansah cheers up patients

First Vice President Dr. Jane Ansah marked Christmas Day by cheering patients, new mothers and newborn babies at Nkhoma Mission Hospital in Lilongwe.

According to information from official government social media platforms, Dr. Ansah, speaking after donating Christmas hampers to the facility, commended the hospital for its innovative initiatives, including the production of its own oxygen to support patient care.

However, Dr. Ansah expressed concern over the eight maternal deaths recorded at the hospital this year, most of which involved teenage mothers.

She emphasized the need to discourage child marriage and teenage pregnancy as part of efforts to reduce maternal mortality.

During the visit, Dr. Ansah also named the first baby born on Christmas Day at the hospital “Jane,” after herself.

The baby girl had originally been named Leviness Sikonda by her mother Aida Lemoniya.
