Social commentator Joseph Kandiyesa has urged stakeholders to prioritize the agriculture sector when presenting their views during the nationwide pre-budget consultation meetings for the 2026/27 national budget.
Kandiyesa emphasized that agriculture remains the backbone of Malawi’s economy and should therefore receive increased financial support to boost productivity, ensure food security, and stimulate economic growth.
Meanwhile, Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Decentralisation, Joseph Mwanamvekha, is scheduled to officially open the 2026/27 pre-budget consultations in Lilongwe on Friday.
The consultations will provide various stakeholders an opportunity to contribute to the formulation of the upcoming national budget.
