Trade, tourism key to economic growth – Mutharika

President Peter Mutharika says the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism has the potential to boost and strengthen Malawi’s economy.

Mutharika made the remarks on Tuesday in Blantyre during the swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Simon Itaye.

The President urged the minister to discharge his duties with integrity, transparency and dedication to public service, emphasizing that the ministry plays a critical role in driving the country’s economic development.

Speaking after taking the oath of office, Itaye said his appointment comes at a challenging time when Malawians are eager to see the economy stabilize.

He pledged to work hard to promote industrial development, enhance trade activities and strengthen the tourism sector, describing the three areas as key pillars for economic growth.
